    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fork oil capacity

I hate to even ask this, but I ordered a manual from ebay before I noticed that the seller cannot ship it until 4/12/12.

Anyway, I just drug a non-running '81 GS1000G home and I'm starting to correct problems. The P.O. must have overfilled the forks, because both of them are leaking around the fork boot. I don't mean a residual leak, but a stream running down the fork. I want to drain them and re-fill, and the only figure I turned up in a search is 241 ml. Is this correct for a wet fork tube? How about the oil weight - any recomendations?

251ml or 8.5 U.S. onces.
7.5 or 10wt. oil if you are a casual rider, 10, 12.5 or 15wt. if you are more aggressive.
Until you change to Sonic or Progressive Suspension front springs ofcourse. ;)

Whatever you want to do just make sure that it is 8.5 ounces or even up to 9 ounces in each tube after allowing them to COMPLETELY drain.
Or... just listen to someone else that DOESN'T own three of them. K?

Another way to look at it...

After looking at that, it would be wise to use 850 GL springs in a 850G or 1000G with the stock spacer if you are too cheap to spring for some after-market ones. ;)
Some crazy people such as myself, would just use the 1000GL springs in a G and toss the spacer. :-\\\
