A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi all is it possible to change the fork tubes without dismantling the whole forks? Thanks
Wayne

I just going to have to say...Nope! Sorry.

BTW...best to list your bike with your questions or put it permanently in your signature...
Makes it easier for folks to give ya a hand...

NO..Not going to happen..if you figure out a way, let us know.

If you want to change the FORKS themselves, sure not a problem.:) But if you want to replace JUST the upper or lower legs, no.:(

Hi guys no it's just the upper legs. Guess I was just hoping for a shortcut, there goes my weekend then. Thanks again

Changing fork tubes shouldn't take too terribly long. Certainly not an entire weekend. Maybe a whole day if you've never taken apart a fork leg before.

Stripped forks down ok and I had hoped to swap the upper tubes from a GS1000E to a set of GS1000L forks that I had on bike. Didn't realise there was such a difference in them. Now having to put the GS1000E forks on the bike but waiting for new seals. Oh well you live and learn I guess.

We still don't know what you have. Go to User CP and update your signature, please include the year of your bike(s).
If you have an L model, the forks are not the same and an E model, even if the years are the same.

Hi I've got an 850 which I've built up with a customised frame.Went with GS L forks but ran into problems with them, as stated will now have to junk them and put on GS1000 ones. Thanks
Wayne

Are you still using the L trees??
There is a big difference in offset between the two..
Running E legs in L trees will add about 1" to your trail.
Hey it'll be more stable at high seeds :)
top is L bottom is E

Hi no I'm using the E model trees so shouldn't be an issue in changing over the complete forks, shame though as I really liked the leading link L model ones
