    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well, I found out why the starter on my GS750EX wasn't turning the engine over:

The bolts showed absolutely no signs of shearing, but they also looked like the factory bolts. Also, one of the springs was broken at the end but still had enough tension to work, that's no big deal. I have a feeling that this was broken when I got the bike because it would have made a hellacious noise (I assume) when it broke. I was really hoping that the bolts were sheared......

So, anyone got a starter clutch that will fit an '81 GS750EX? Before I get the whole soapbox speech, I know I'd be better off buying a new one, but honestly I don't have the money to buy one. And besides, look at the pic. Anything would be better than that.
 
That's usually a pretty easy to find part on ebay...

'80 750E and first-gen 16v 1100 would undoubtedly fit.
 
To someone that doesn't know what it should look like it doesn't look broke, it broke so clean and consistently.

Looking for a low-dough fix: JB Weld, or have someone weld it back together \\:D/....J/K those probably wouldn't be a good idea :-D.
 
I know what you mean, I noticed a hairline seam on the side before I pulled it off and I thought it was a casting mark or an intentional "expansion" seam. That was before I knew there was a problem with the starting system and started taking things apart.

I was really, REALLY hoping that all I was going to have to do was replace three broken bolts.:cry:

Well, that would give me a nice fairing, but it still wouldn't start!
 
Too bad I could have fixed you up last week, What is left of the bike is now in the scrap yard.
