I bought what I thought were '81 GS850E carbs since the ones off my '82 750t were rusted solid. I am in the process of tearing them down for full rebuild. When I got the tops off, I noticed that there were 2 different sets of main jets in them. The outside carbs had 115's and the inside 2 had 107.5's. this leads me to believe that someone had put either inside carbs from an 1100 or a '83 650 in the rack judging by the jets. I could be wrong and a PO could have just been messing with jets. I need to clean off the other jets I pulled to be sure.
Real questions are these. The bike has no air box at the moment and I would rather run pods. From what I gathered so far I should go up on the mains 3 sizes, so for a 750 that should be 120's since stock is 112.5. Would I also need to go up a size for the pilot as well or leave it stock? Also should I go ahead and get what a 750 carb should have as far as all the other jets? According to BikeCliff's charts nothing between the models I (may) have are the same as 750 carbs. Any insights would be appreciated.
