    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi there

A have a problem! I have lost the round plastic cap that you screw on the inner brakepad on the front brakecaliber on my gs 1000 (1980). My lokal Suzuki dealer says that it's not possible to get a spare. I wondered if there is any other type of brakecalibers that would work on my bike. I have looked at some 4 piston brakecalibers from a 750 gsx (1985) I have not had a closer look. But could they work??

I haven't had any luck swapping the 4 piston calipers from the later models because they are too wide.
If you can't find that cap local, let me know and I'll try to mail you one.

There you go, isn't this place grand? Nice offer Jeff. You might get some of the smaller late model 4 piston calipers to work with adapter plates but the earlier ones are too big to work with the older fork/wheel combos.
 
Great! i will let you know... i have one old man looking for one in his basement this friday...But have anyone heard about any other calibers that might work? i am asking because my sparepartsneeding is quite bashed allready

Before you give up on the calipers, think about swapping over a late model master cylinder. I have a 90' ish katana master on my 550 and it stops very well. Do You have double disks, or single?

(forgive the grip, I'm not done with that yet)

I have double discs. What nice idear with the Katana master...I have my mastercylinder under suspecion as well, due to spounchiness:.:. And I have bleeded the system.

I don't know how well you'll be able to see it, but I run a late model GSXR master on my bike.

If I were to attempt another caliper swap, I would be looking at the early 80's Honda two piston calipers. (like on the CBX's etc.) like these. Anyone ever used 'em?

Never used them Jeff, but if they have two live pistons they should work better than the stock single piston calipers.

Agreed. I may try to find a junk set on ebay just to see if it'll fit "Future Skunk".
 
They do hit the wheel. Way too wide. like 5 to 8mm on each side. A fork swap like you did would be way easier.

I haven't checked the clearence on the spoke wheel bike though, only with mags on the narrow 550 front end. I may give that a try on the wider 1000 front end just to see.
 
I take it you have the round pad version brake calipers for a early GS1000? The later rectangular version are interchangable and parts are still avaliable.
