    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Front/rear wheel alignment

I'm putting a 6x17" GSXR 1000 rear wheel on the back of my GS1000 along with the GSXR 1000 monoshock conversion and GSXR 1000 front end. The rear wheel needs to be parallel with the front wheel so that the bike will track in a straight line and corner properly. If they're not in a straight line with each other, some new wheel spacers will need to be made up.

So far, I've tried using the string method of checking for alignment, but so far it seems imprecise - a lot of eyeballing required and the measurement of wheel offset is different almost every time. Is there a more precise way to tell if the wheels are parallel?

You probably won't like this idea but it WILL be the easiest & most accurate way. Take off the seat & bodywork & turn it over upside down like we used to work on bicycles when we were kids so it is sitting on the handlebars & rear frame. Then you can line up the wheels with a straight edge & measure how thick you need to make the spacers. I've had to do this with several bikes in the past & as wierd as it seems, it works! Ray.
 
Another way that is not quite that extreme will still need a bit of jury-rigging.

Find a way to hold the bike upright without using the centerstand. Find a couple of straight 1x2 boards. Strap the 1x2s to the rear tire so they go forward and straddle the front tire. Now you can make adjustments by seeing your clearances on both sides of the front tire at the same time.
