    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

front wheel wobble

My 78' gs 750 front wheel seem to have some play in it from side to side is this a sing that the wheel bearing is bad if so how hard are they to chang? Do the bearings need to be pressed or can i get them out by hand?

Its probably not the wheel bearing, but it could be. When you say side to side play do you mean the whole wheel shifts as though its sliding on the axle, or the tire moves back and forth with the opposite side going the other direction. If the former the wheel probably is not installed properly, if the ladder then its probably a bad wheel bearing. Is this a new developemnt on a bike you've been riding or is it a new to to you machine?

How hard to change? With little mechincal aptitude = very hard, well versed mechanically = easy, but maybe time consuming.

They can come out a go in with hand tools. If you have to ask then you need to get a manual or help from someone who understands the procedure.

i'm sorry am i not aloud to post too many threads?

as far as my wheel goes the top moves one way the bottom move the other i thought it was bearings i was just hoping to make sure b/f i rip it apart. as far as put back together wrong the front wheel is about the only part that was not messed with.

Make sure the steering stem nut and all the other front end bolts are tightened with a torque wrench to spec to start with.

That's gonna be the bearings. They are removed by "drifting" them out. On most front wheels there is a sleeve between the bearings. You can usually get it to move to the side a little and then get a tool on to the bearing inner race and tap it out. Tap in one place until it moves a little. Then move across and tap the other side till they are even. Move around the bearing to get it to come out as evenly as possible. Once its out remove the sleeve and tap the other out on the outer edge of the bearing. When I install the new ones I find a socket or other square round object to put on the bearing and then tap it in. BE SURE IT GOES IN STRAIGHT.

There are home made or store bought tools that can grab the inside race of the bearings so you can drive them out that way. They aren't worth the effort unless they refuse to move. There's lots of sites that'll walk you through it. Let us know if you have a problem. LOL!
