Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Can someone please tell me what the book lists as the OHMS for the Fuel Gauge?

I'm going with a custom gauge panel setup and want to keep my fuel level gauge......going with a custom gauge but need to know what is listed as the OHMS....

Thanks,

Paul

also,

does anyone have the fuel gauge wiring diagram for this bike?

83-86 GS550E

bikecliff has a oem repair manual for our bikes on his page its at the top in the middle section

no prob and also the ohm reading will change throughout the sweep of the float.

I see that its listed as 6 ohms empty and 97 ohms full........

all I can find is a 0 empty/90 full.....I may try this one and make it work:D

or find the correct resistors and just wire in the proper resistors to match the new gauge.....

that should be close being that the scale is about the same, just shifted. you could change that with a 6ohmish resistor inline with it

that's my biggest question.......what do the stock resistors look like?

they arnt resistors the float in the tank is a big variable resistor you would just add a resistor to shift the scale and its pretty close its almost a plug and play

if you look at the diagram it shows the float in the tank then shows a 6/97 ohm resistor later in the wiring harness.........

hmm i dunno i havent looked at it and my internet connection here really sucks so i havent downloaded the manual here

not really resistance is resistance. It is not biased to direction

O.K.

I've figured out part of this...........you were right with the fuel float is "the resistor"....the picture shows that if you disconnect the 2 wires going to the tank, you need to connect either a 6 ohm OR 97 ohm resistor to test the gauge..........

so if I hook the gauge up in the links...........it should be 2 wires.....If I hook the wires backwards at the gauge OR at the tank shouldn't the 0/90 gauge work?
