A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

Keep your review as factual as possible and please refrain from personal attacks. Posted articles will be reviewed by the Editors and may be removed at their discretion.

So let's make this a useful addition to the forum! A special pat on the back goes to Hap Call for coming up with this great idea.

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fuel Injector Connection

Somewhat related to the Rock Auto thread above, I've recently had an excellent experience with Fuel Injector Connection.

Basically, you send them your dirty old fuel injectors, and they clean and rebuild them for a measly $15 each.

So instead of paying $130+ each for new injectors for my 200,000 mile Corolla, I shipped off my old injectors, and they cleaned them and shipped them back to me the same day they received them. All for $60 plus $12 return shipping. Wotta deal.

There was a misunderstanding on the o-ring size (their reference listed the wrong size for my car), and they quickly corrected the situation, no questions asked.

The car runs 100% better now (the injectors were indeed very clogged).

I'm also 100% happy. I hate spending a lot of money on a stupid car. :D

They also rebuild motorcycle fuel injectors, and sell high-performance and matched sets of injectors. You hot rod folks probably already know all about them (in fact, koolaid_kid told me about them). But even those of us with ordinary everyday econoboxes can benefit from their expertise.

Hey Brian.. Just out of curiosity, what symptoms were you experiencing with the car that made you want to have the injectors serviced. I've got a volvo 760 with over 210k that has never had the injectors serviced.

It started as a stumble at full throttle, and got worse until the wouldn't really do much at anything above 3/4 throttle except buck and stumble.

Also, when the computer was reset it took a long time to "learn" to run at all. Basically, the computer had to keep increasing the pulse width to get it to run at all. I was getting misfire codes as well as lean codes. I checked the MAF, TPS, and ignition coils as well, and they were fine.

A friend with some tuning equipment confirmed the diagnosis with an O2 sensor showing the engine was going very lean -- starving for fuel.

I also replaced the tired and sluggish O2 sensor, but that wasn't really causing the problem.

Did your gas mileage decrease while all this was happening?

Nope -- remember, it was squirting less fuel than it needed because of the restrictions in the injectors, and it was not able to make much power. I think mileage stayed pretty much the same and may have even been a little better.

I'm not sure about mileage because I ride year-round. I've only driven a handful of times in the last few years. My wife uses the car a couple of times a week, and she never really complained until it got reallllllly bad.

Bad mileage could be a problem with one of several sensors or a clogged air filter/intake system. A restricted catalyst will also cause power problems, and most commonly gets that way because a bad O2 sensor caused the engine to run rich or in open loop too long.
