    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fuel leaking from exhaust after carb rebuild

I did a complete disassembly of both of my carbs on my gs450txz. I soaked the bodies of the carbs in carb cleaner making sure that nothing with a o-ring was soaked. I put them on the bike after bench syncing them according to the guide on BikeCliff's site. I was able to get the bike started with the choke all the way open. The bike idled at about 900 rpm for about 3 to 5 minutes before dying. Any attempt to apply any throttle would kill the engine. After about three restarts I notice that there was fuel leaking out of the bottom of the left side exhaust/muffler area by the rear foot peg (driver peg). Fuel only leaks while running. I ran the full range of fuel air screw settings (2.5 to a full 4 turns out from bottom) with really no change. I turned the idle adjuster all the way out and took all the slack out of the throttle cable and still had no luck. The floats were set at the proper height. As always any help is greatly and humbly appreciated.

P.S. I have yet to search this forums past threads for similar problems as I figured I would past first then look just in case mine was a unique problem that has never been posted.
 
Did you install the airbox? Bike won't run well with out it. As for the fuel, you might want to check your petcock. Fuel could be running back down the vacuum line to the carbs. Also, if your gas tank has rust inside it could be fouling your float needles causing the float bowls to overflow.
 
airbox is good, no rust in tank. as for the petcock, i have to check it. the bike was running semi good before i took them off but now its not even ride-able. one thing i noticed during dis-assembly was that the jet needle (the hollow post attached to the float bowl that the needle jet slides in and out of) would not come out of the float bowl so I left it in and soaked it in evapo-rust and wiped it out until it was clean then followed up with a good drying with compressed air. I think the previous owner had them apart before since the aforementioned hollow post seemed pressed into the float bowl and had some scratch marks on them.
 
Ok....went out to the garage and determined the petcock is ok.....pulled the carbs off and checked the floats and the left one was set too low. I set both at about .92 inches which is the max according to clymers. I put the carbs back on and it idled fine. No more gas spitting out of the exhaust. I took it for a ride and now it lacks serious power! I don't have a sync tool and have only bench synced them to this point. Is this the only thing that can cause a lack of power or am I missing something?
