    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

fuel leaking into exhaust and motor

I have a 1981 Gs 750. Iam the second owner of the bike. And it only has 9800 miles on it. I left the fuel petcock on and it filled up the exhaust with fuel, and into the motor oil. Is this normal? I started replacing all the fuel lines. Do need to rebuild the petcock also? Help would be greatly appreciated. thanks Jon
 
does your petcock have just the on and of positions? , or does it have the prime on and reserve positions? ive read alot on here that rebuilding the petcock is just a waste of time. better to just buy a new one and it will last for many years.also might want to check that the float needles arent sticking. how long has the bike sat cause a good carb clean might be in order.
 
I would say that you probably need to rebuild it. I would also dump your oil and put fresh oil in. I wouldn't run the motor with that contaminated oil in it.
 
I have the petcock with 3 postions on it. where do i find a new petcock? the bike also has uni air filter without the air box.And has 4 into 1 kerker exhaust. I have cleaned the carbs. And cant remember where the fuel lines go.
 
CHeck with www.z1enterprises.com for new petcock. You can get a replacement for about $45-50 or OEM for around $76 rebuild kits are $30 Yiour choice. You should clean the carbs and replace the float needle seat O rings too..
Have the carbs been rejetted ?

Do this and set the floats. Then you'll know whether you have to rebuild the carbs.

No. It's not normal.........Do not start the bike with fuel in your engine. Drain it completely, get a new oil filter and rubber o-ring for the cover. Your going to need to change the oil and filter, run the bike a 100 miles or so and change it all again. Don't fool around with the oiling system on this particular model engine !! As long as you take good care of it, it will run forever, if it's abused.......well, I won't answer that.

The petcock has failed if it was in the "ON" postion. Fuel should not flow because the fuel is vacumn fed in this position. In the "PRI" position the petcock releases the vacumn and the fuel is gravity fed. I'm guessing your petcock is original, it's old !! The rubber inside has likely deteriorated. Get a new and don't worry about it for another 20 years.

Also follow the link provided by Chef and rebuild the carbs. Which will include all new rubber o-rings for them as well.:)
