    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm in the process of setting my float heights using the wet method (tube that comes out of the carb drain plug), and I wanted to know where exactly should the fuel level be at. I have a 79 gs550. I found various specs on this forum for this carb set buy I don't know where to measure from. Here is some of the info for my carbs:


GS550L (77-79) the specs are for the VM's

bore size 22 (0.87)
float height 24.+/-1.0 (0.95 +/-0.04)
fuel level 4.0+/-1.0 (0.16 +/-0.04)
air screw 2.0 turns back
cut away 1.5
jet needle 5dl35-3 (the -3 3rd notch??)
pilot screw 1.0
pilot jet #15
pilot outlet 0.6
needle jet 0-6
by pass 1.0
main jet #80

I have always thought that the level should be right close to the edge of the float bowl. You quote a fuel level of 4.0 +/-1.0, so I would guess that it should be 4mm below the gasket. 8-[


remember, it's just a guess on my part. anyone have anything better?

I remember reading that it should be 4mm (i think +/- 1mm by wet measuring is too much) at the carb split of bowl and top, which is where the gasket is so.... yeah...
 
I had no idea what this meant exactly... so I set my float heights at 24mm the normal way. I then checked it with the wet method just to find out if all were at the same level... and they were so I'm no longer worried. Thanks guys for the responses. Take care.
