    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fuel Line Routing - 1980 GS550

I've been having some issues with fuel starvation. How do you guys route the fuel line, come up through the middle of the carb bank and sweep over to the petcock or do you route it forward at the bottom and over at some point?
 
Straight up and over. The hose needs to be kept as short as possible otherwise it will kink when installing the tank.

Thanks Nessism! The hose didn't kink but it is long enough that it creates a loop that is higher than the outlet of the petcock (pretend the blue line is the petcock outlet plane, red is the fuel line) Ends up with a small air bubble at the top of the loop. It was starting fine, but giving me trouble today.

It's also leaking from the elbow now so I think it's time for a new petcock.

Can anyone recommend a replacement petcock? I don't have calipers handy but measured ~1.8" between the mountain bolts, does 46mm sound right? I saw 50mm posted somewhere on this site in reference to the one year only 1980 petcock.

This one doesn't have a prime position, just the screw to the right of the on/reserve switch. I'd prefer a fully manual option
 
50mm is the c-c spacing of the leverless petcock. I'm not sure about that petcock you have. It's a part that was only used on a couple models.
 
I believe the early models used a petcock with 44mm bolt spacing.

I bought a K&L petcock from Z1. My fuel line is a bit too long and has the opposite issue as Viper's. It forms a small valley before entering the fuel inlet between carbs 2 and 3. Could this cause fueling issues? Because a fluid seeks its own level, the valley should remain full unlike a peak which would try to remain dry. I guess I should just trip it next time I have the tank off.

Edit: Confirmed 44mm spacing on my tank (not 100% sure it's a 77 750 tank). I bought this from Z1: https://www.z1enterprises.com/petcock-vacuum-suzuki-2.html. The reserve is ridiculously small (don't ask how I know). I'd get this version with a larger reserve (it was out of stock when I was shopping): https://www.z1enterprises.com/petcock-vacuum-suzuki.html.
