Fuel Petcock issues....

Hi everyone,

I have decided that the bike gets spark and air, but I think it's not getting adequate fuel.

Is there any way to bypass the fuelcock for now? I have good gas as well as seafoam in the tank and just want the bike to run for a bit.

Right now, it takes a good amount of cranks to even sputter, and then finally it will turn over. I can't throttle it, or it will stall, as well as remove the choke because again, it will stall....

If it takes that many cranks to even sputter, could that be a spark issue? I just replace the "driver's side" plugs for the second time. The ones on the 'passenger side" still look brand new.

Valves adjusted?
When is the last time this thing ran correctly?
It sounds like the carbs are thoroughly munged up.

Put the petcock on PRI, fuel should flow. Don't leave it there.

To answer the question as to when the bike ran properly, I don't know. I bought it from a guy who had it since the winter time, and didn't do much work to it.

So no, I don't believe the carbs or the valves have been cleaned properly in a while. That's why I was hoping the bike could run for a bit to clean all that out. The last thing I want to do is tear into the bike, but it looks like I'm going to have to.

Pull your intake off from your carbs and spray a squirt of gas in each cylinder. See if that gets it to run for a bit. If it does then its a fuel problem.

After that pull your fuel line and see if it flows freely in pri. If it does, run it on pri. If it stays running switch it to res or on and see if it dies there.

It's quicker to put a teaspoon of fuel in each of the spark plug holes, replace plugs and hit the starter.

You can take a gallon milk container, cut the top off, put a hose in the cap that fits the carbs, and put some fuel in it. It will bypass the tank and petcock, and give you some possibly useful info. Hook it on the bars with a coathanger or such.
