A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I was going to do one after I got it running. I wanted to put green coils on also. Before anyone asks it was fully charge and has been on the charger all day. New stator and rectifier last year. what should the voltage be at or around?

Ideally you don't want any drop to the coils. You will see some drop due to old wiring and dirty connections. If its more than 1.5v then do the mod.

Might want to do the relay mod now. Sounds like it needs to happen BEFORE you will get it running :)

Hi,

I'm really interested in this thread as I am about to do a rebuild on my carbs and have a question. What is this coil relay mod you are talking about?

CLICK HERE are read all bout LOTS of stuff for your motorcycle, coil relay mod, stator testing, oil changes, air intake repairs, fork seal replacement, etc.

Thank you for your indulgence,

OK part of my issue was most definitely the voltage to the coils. Did the relay mod and fired right up.

I am running way rich and no mixture screw adjustment would help. What are the chances that the 138 main jets are to rich even though Dynojet says to start with them on the stage 3 kit? I guess my big fear is going too lean and burning up something.

I would do the relay mod right off the bat. I think i ran all last season with the coils being under powered. Notice a big difference in the way it starts and my carbs aren't even close to being dialed in.
I have four GSes at the house right now, and have had one "catch-and-release" a little over a year ago.
NONE of them have had the coil relay mod.

If they started any easier, they would already be running when I walked up to them. :p

Do they all have stock coils and ignition? Obviously you aren't get a voltage drop at the coils.

Two of them came to me with Accel coils, the other two are stock.

Quite frankly, I have never measured the voltage at the coils.

Because I have never had any problems starting them (after the valves were adjusted and the carbs were cleaned),
I have never had any reason to suspect diminished voltage at the coils. :o
