A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fuel Sending Unit Leaking

my bike has developed a leak in the fuel sending unit. It appears to be leaking from one of the bolts that holds it to the tank.
I have tried to tighten down, but still leaking.

I'm assuming gasket is bad, wondering if there is some kind of sealant (liquid gasket, permatex) that i could use to stop the leak.

anyone have any luck doing this ?

or maybe getting some gasket sheet and fabricating a replacement.

if all else fails, i can go to bike bandit and order.

thanks in advance.

If you know that it's the gasket...get a new one. Sealants have never worked for me and as a rule, I won't use them in conjunction with the fuel system. My .02

MOST of the stock petcocks use an oval ruber Oring as the gasket. If its no longer holding fuel, its probably time to toss the oring, however, at this point, you may be best served to REPLACE the entire petcock. Yeah, its working now (is it?) but if the oring is old enough to fail, then likely so are the diaphrams inside the petcock itself. You are dealing with highly flamable liquid right around the crotchal region.... Liquid type sealants are probably NOT a good idea for a fix either..

I just swapped my sending unit from my bad tank to my good one, and It looked to me like that gasket was on there good, almost part of the tank. I think you'd be best off getting an oem one from a dealer, versus trying to make one, or repair it especially when it relates to fuel, and being in contact with it continuously. ..just my 2 cents

Heck If I can figure out how to get the one off of my leaky tank, you could have it....it never leaked there for me.
