A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

My tank sender unit is not working. Fuel gauge is working fine. What's most peoples experience of this? Does the coil part of the sender unit usually pack up or is it usually the wires connected to it.
If the coil has a break, has anyone rewound the coil with resistance wire?
Regards
Pete

Could be the wiper arm not making contact on the coil wire.
We you get the unit out of the tank, can check with an ohm meter.

I'm just running the tank down then will check. Can the unit be opened easily or is it a sealed unit?

Be very careful of the ultra fine wire leading from the base plate to the waffle board.

I found the small ground wire between the "coil" and the body of the sending unit to be broken. I didn't notice it the first few times and assumed the unit was broken. Just happened to poke it by accident and it moved away from the sending unit body. I was able to simply solder it back into position and it's been holding fine since.

I'm not sure if it makes any difference or not, but what year is your 850? :-k

It would be nice if you generated a signature that mentions year and model.

It reduces a lot of confusion when you post questions and don't mention it.

Sorry, will do. It's an 80 model.

Took off the tank today to look at the tank sender unit. And it's been botched with chemical metal, so in the market for another on. If anyone has a spare that is working fine, I would love to buy it.
