A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Anyone know where i can find a full carb rebuild kit (not just the float bowl kit) i mean with "O" rings for the fuel cross over tubes and all. Or give me a link to a thread with the info. My 81 GS650G will need them for sure.

Check the rebuilt tutorial link in my signature. It will explain all you need to know.

Don't need the rebuild kit. Go to cycleorings.com and get the oring kit. All you need.

I got the kit from cycleorings.com and it's excellent. I also had to get a replacement fuelmix pilot screw and the rubber boots that go from the carb to the engine intake as well.

The bolts on the intake boots (The metal parts) were extremely difficult for me to get off, so be careful you don't strip them! Get a manual impact driver if you don't have one already. And be careful with pb blaster (or any other penetrating lubricant) because it can eat away at the head gasket.

Once you get them off you should toss them in the trash and replace them with stainless steel allen head screws.

Yeah, definitely. I replaced every single bolt I took off my bike. I stripped those aforementioned bolts, hence my serious issues. I wasn't saying don't strip them so you can reuse them :-P

Just an FYI, those were JIS screws, which do not fit our SAE screwdrivers. To get them out easier, take a regular phillips screwdriver and file off a bit of the end of it. It will then fit the JIS screws and you won't strip any more out.

+1. Those things were the bane of my existence until I read that on here. But, allen heads now permeate my beast :D

You really do not need the full rebuild kit, beside the fact that most parts in there are far inferior products than OEM. For the fuel bowl gaskets, buy them from z1 or your preferred vendor (Boulevard, G&S, whatever). But everything O-rings just grab some from Mr. Barr at cycleorings (This kit includes the fuel crossover, carb boot o-rings, and everything else:p)

If you have any specific questions, feel free to message me. I have an 82 Gs650G, with a seat from an 81 :D

you guys are awesome glad i got back on here i used to be on here under another name but i guess there is a 6 mos log in limit...if you dont log in within 6mos you lose your account. Not sure but if that is true but when i put in my email address it said there was not record or something to that effect.

And thanks for that JIS info....i would never have known.

as for the allen head screws...i bought a whole kit when i built my cbr600 and used some of them but i have a ton of them left over of various sizes.

they guy i bought it from said he only did the float bowl area as far as O rings and needles and the lot so i am sure its due for an O ring overhaul.

Seems the O-rings and "carb rebuild kits" are always separate.
Many, or most of us have purchased our O-rings from Mr Barr.
ALL of us are happy we did. :-)

After installing the new O rings the bike now idles really well. I would like to thank all of you that posted to help me out.:) Mr. Barr even directed me where to find an O ring kit for my V65 Magna. I love it when a plan comes together.
