DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I went to change the oil today after winter storage and instead of oil comming out, I got about 1.5 gallons of gas out of it! How does gas get in the oil. It was fine when I put it away I changed the oil and it was fine. so it was apparently somthing that happened while sitting in the cold. I tried searching, but came up empty. Any help would be appriciated.

Forgot to add, this is a gs450 1981 with 360000 on the engine. if you need any more info just ask!

Thanks

your petcock needs rebuilding, or you left it on prime while sitting, and you have a leaking needle valve in the carbs. Pull the vacuum line off at the petcock and see if it is wet.

It could be bad "o" rings for the float needle valve, bad floats or bad seals for the petcock vacuum line. Ted

wait, did you say 360,000 miles?

Did you drain your carb bowls before storing it? Did you store the bike on it's sidestand or tipped over? Chances are the bowls just seeped through...

sorry, one too many zeros in the milage. I meant 36,000 miles. I stored it on its center stand, I will check the petcock and see if I left in the Prime position. I did not clear the bowls when I put it away so you may be right there as well.

Thought I would add that I left the drain plug loose and it still seems to be leaking gas, cause the oils is all gone and I still have a puddle. So if I get the carbs rebuilt will that fix probelm? The vent line on the petcock is dry.
Thanks

You can probably fix it by just replacing the O ring on the float valve, you don't need a complete rebuild. The petcock does need checking & you may be able to just clean it. Check the petcock diaphram o ring & sealing surface
