A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Gas leaked on my side covers!

I seem to have a leak in the underside of my gas tank. It's intermittant and I'm having a hard time figuring out where it's coming from. What I do know is that it flows to the back of the tank and from there is leaks down the side panels. I now have a dark vertical line on each of my side panels.

It looks like it's residue left over from the gas (possibly combined with rust - something else that needs to be looked into :( ) , but I can't scrape it off with anything gentle enough to not damage the plastic. Is there any sort of solvent I can use that will remove this stuff that won't dissolve the plastic?

I use Meguires #6 cleaner/wax on my collector cars when I see this happening (overflow from the gas filler neck). If it hasn't ate into the paint, this should clean things up and apply some wax to boot.

Sounds what I had on the Koot Scoot. Someone before I had the bike seems to have had a tank bag, or something attached for a very long time. The result was rusting at the back corners of the tank.
Suggestion: drain the tank and take it to a radiator repair shop. Have them clean it inside and then line it. I did this on another bike of mine and it cost me $50. $50 well spent. It didn't leak any more.

The Koot Scoot? I was able to solder the rust pin pricks from the outside. This was done after cleaning the gas out of the tank throughtly running water through it for an hour to make sure there were no residual gas fumes in there. Although the soldering iron is electric and no open flame, it was still wise to safe.

I to have the same problem. If it is just the left one (mostly) it's probably that silly pet-cock I have a leak in it that blows a nice oily/gas mixture all down the side of my GS850 I leave the Pet-cock in the "prime" position or it would be much worse.I think it's some sort of vacuum related thing?? just a guess :)

Have we really sunk so extremely low as to become THAT politically correct? Now, that sucks!
