Gas Tank dent removal and paint

Good Afternoon!

Looking to sandblast and re-prime the frame and the tank for my 'scrambler' project - I've got some decent size dents in my gas tank - was going to see if a paintless dent removal place could take them out - but I'm curious if I should try to have the dent work done first or the sandblasting/ priming done first?

Not to argue with Todd, but another point of view: You could have the dent pulled, then sandblasting could very well reveal more dents that had previously been filled. That’s exactly what one would find under the paint on my tank.

I, too, would strip and/or sandblast the tank down to bare metal first. That will reveal all evils and then you can decide what else might need to be repaired at the same time.

Dent removal places or any body shop can pull "MOST OF IT" but youll still be doing some filler work. I agree with fully stripping it and have any other previously filled craters addressed when taking the tank in to a shop. Some dents ive uncovered were 1/2 inch deep and they just packed them full of bondo. Im a belivier in getting as much out as they can before adding filler.

Yeah, the gas tank is the focal point of any motorcycle. More so over distant decades. Still very important visually, even if there's no gas in the "tank" (V-Max, Goldwing).

One of my brothers informed me that the gouge they placed in my previously pristine tank can only be seen from one side. Now I know I won't be occasionally facing the bike in different directions when I finally get her back in my living room.

And that they broke a rear turn signal lense. Oh, brother(s)!
