I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

can someone tell me if a gas tank off an 83 GS850L will fit an 81 GS1000L. I tried looking at online fiche but that part is discontinued. Appreciate it.

Im interested in the answer to this one as well. I'd love to put an L tank on my 82-G.

I'd like to adapt a G tank to my L. I'd like the extra capacity. I know I'd have to do some mods, but if the tunnel in the tank would fit, it'd just be minor welding for the rest of the mounting of the tank...:)

It seems that the tanks from different models and same years would be a direct swap. No way Zuke changed frame mounts from model to model?

I dont really care about capacity but I do care about looks and flow of the bike lines.
The G tanks are ugly as sin in my opnion.

They moved the mounting pin on the front of the frame aft about three inches for the L models. The forward location for the pin on the frame is still there, so a little welding would do it.

Putting an L tank on the G should be similar.

The original question 850L to 1100L tanks, I think they are the same, but not sure.

The mountings are different between models. Actually, the best way to do what I want is to have my tank expanded upwards to keep the same lines. Someone on here did it and it looked good.
Hey, to the OP, sorry about the thread jack.:dancing:

I put a 79' 850G tank on an 82 1100 L....had to move the tabs forward for the rubber mounts.....also leaves a gap under the tank above the sidecover...the rear mounting tab also needed to be fabbed

Bike was bought as a basket case....without the L tank....still trying to find one.....nice to have the extra fuel though....

I put my 81 GS750L on my 79 GS1000L and it bolted right up, was snug to get on, but it did fit. And I tried the 79's on my 81 and it was a lil looser, but still fit well when bolted. Hope this helps.

I think they changed the rear mounts in '82, so you would be better off to find an '81 or older tank, if you can. Then it should bolt right up.
Might be that they only changed the mounts for the G tanks, not really sure about the Ls.
