Mr. sasper,

It will help only in general ways. There are a lot of similarities with the motors, forks, brakes, etc. But please note that the 850 is a shaftie while the 550 is a chain so the whole drive mechanism is very different. It makes a good reference, but it will not substitute for a model-specific manual for your bike. They can be had on ebay fairly inexpensively. I strongly encourage you to invest in one.

You can download the factory GS550 manual for free from repairmanualclub.com

850 manual is similar but different in key areas as you might imagine.

Hmmm.... Now that I've scanned the section on rear brakes, it seems that your version, Cliff, is better than the one I paid 40 plus for.

Oh, also for you office-worker types (like me) you can print odd numbered pages first, flip them over into the paper tray, and then print even numbered pages on the other side. Voila! Double-sided printing (save a tree). Just make sure you experiment with a single page first so you know which way to put the paper into the tray for the second side...

I just downloaded it, thanks Clif. I also put it on my flash drive, so I'll have it with me everywhere I go! Am I a geek or what!

That's not my bike. However, if you go here you can read all about it. The computer itself is used only to record movies from a helmet cam.

The guy definitely spent some time on that, but the video's are pretty annoying with the helmet cam.
