A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Just try and charge the battery first, if it won't come up or won't stay up in the 12 volt + range, then buy a new one. Even with the bike not running there some tests you can still do that would be helpful in pin pointing the problem. But you have to have a good strong battery first.

How do i run those test if the bike doesnt run?
Good point! Just do first two steps.
You say you got spark, now make sure plug wires go to correct plugs, left coil fires 1 and 4. Using a running vehicle to "jump" is sometimes bad news for the ignitor, so next time beware!
You don't need a working R/R for bike to start and run.

Hope the charger isn't over 2 amps. Any thing higher could fire the battery if left on too long.

Its a 1.5amp motorcycle batt charger. Once i get it charged ill do the first 2 steps of the test, then what?

and 1.5 amps that is probably not enough to get it charged in a reasonable amount of time(4-5 hours). For a short time (5-10 minutes) you can push 4-5 amps into it. Do not leave it over night that way.

You need to get the battery charged enough so it passes the first part of the Quick Test.

I understand the battery needs to be charged but i dont think a dead or bad battery is the cause of my problems but i could be wrong. What trouble shooting do I need to do to find the problem

I checked for spark holding the plug next to the engine and it had spark. What next?

Confirm, Compression, Fuel,Spark

It's can't not fire if they come together

Think he meant, It can not fire if they don't all come together lol.

Actually I was making a stronger statement although it might not be true. At the moment I can't think of any way you can add spark to a compressed volatile gas and not have it fire. Maybe if it is flooded. Your statement is undoubtably true even though a weaker statement.

You can get a spark check tool for very little cash to verify that you arme getting enough spark.it should jump at least. an 8mm gap.
