This is a series of pics showing the steps I use to get the 1150E on the centerstand.

1st.......Stand the bike up straight
.

2nd..............Push centerstand into contact with floor with left foot.
th_IMG_0010.jpg

3rd.............. Rock the bike slightly side to side to insure both legs of centerstand are in contact with the floor.

th_IMG_0011.jpg

4th........... Put pressure on your left foot to maintain centerstand in contact with floor. (bike will stand---no hands needed)

5th............starting the lift........... with left foot on centerstand ear, pivot on left foot, ending with right foot placed beside rear axle and left hand on grab handle on the left side of the seat. Then, push with left foot while pulling with left hand. Left arm is straight. Straighten left leg. The line of force is from left foot to left shoulder. Back is straight. Right foot is beside rear axle end.

I also have a short windows media movie, but I havent found a place to be able to host it. I can send it email as an attachment if anyone wants it.
Its about 5 seconds long.

Hey Earl I thought real bikes didn't have centerstands, only wheelbarrow's do

Anyhow good pic's on how too 8)

Well, it's a good thing you posted the pics, Earl, cos from the text description I completely misunderstood what you were saying :D

Now all I have to do is figure out what to use instead of a grab handle :D

Thanks. This is very helpful.

I can't see the movie due to my OS, but I'll happily put it up on a host for you if you want - logan@pt.lu

On my 1100, I have to grab the frame under the seat (have to take the seat off), it doesnt have a grab handle.

Went and took a look, and it runs out the box mounting frame itself will do nicely. Just need to pop the box, which takes 2 seconds.

Cool :D Now all I need to do is refit the centerstand so I can try it out, but that'll have to be tomorrow - gotta get the van going again today (minor but time consuming).

Thanks again.

Earl! I had it all wrong! I'll retry this. One thing I see right now though is it will be impossible for me to have my legs and back straight and still be able to even touch the seat. I am simply too tall. Something will have to give a bit for this to work for me. But I am going to give it a try as an alternate method to teach others who struggle with the conventional way.

If you could email me the video that would rock. Also if you have higher res pics of those little pics that would be great :)

I sent you a PM with the email address to use for sending stuff to.

Thanks mate :D

Mark, all the stress is on your legs anyway, so bending them because you're tall shouldnt make any difference. Just be sure to keep your back straight.

The little fast and furious guys, get whacked with my normal start from a light, so I dont even have to get on it to watch them in my mirror. :-) :-)

Now, I have a good friend with a 650 hp GTO thats pretty quick. :-)

You know I was thinking about the title of this thread Earl and I thought to myself, yeah, always use the center stand, because you can roll off the bike if on it's side stand

Nice job earl. I can't quite recognize the star. Is that Brad Pitt or Dennis Hopper?

I ve got a method for getting it on the center stand

I ve got a method for getting it on the center stand

Keep in mind I ride a 450 which only weighs 300 plus pounds. You simply hop off your bike and put your left on the left handle and your right hand on your coil spring -it won't pinch you I promise- you can put your fingers in the spaces between unless your fingers are smaller than mine which I doubt (theyd fall through). You know the rest with your right foot push down and stand up on the center stand. 1 2 3 a b cEasypeasyjapanesy. A good method. Are these bikes japaneese. A good method

My method is to lift the bike over my head with my right hand, pull the center stand down with my left hand, then gently set the bike down on the floor.

If I'm careful, I won't spill my drink.

In the summer of 1984,when I was 15, I took an MSF course to prepare for my license test that fall when I turned 16. One of the instructor's pet peeves was improper centerstand technique. To drive the point home, he taught us this exact technique, and in order to pass the course, each student (including the girls) had to put his massive KZ1300 on it's centerstand with no help.

With his guidance, everyone learned how to do it smoothly and easily. I only weighed about 135 lbs at the time, but due to the method of weight transfer in this technique, could (fairly) easily put his beast on the centerstand on the first try, every time.

Just make sure you're wearing hard-soled boots. Soft-soled sneakers don't cut it.

Nice job Earl.

I thought that guy was "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, the wrestler guy? I didn't know he was also into GS's

This thread being fairly old, the pictures are gone. I'd really like to learn this as I finally got my bike home today and I'm ready to start working on it.
