GK final gear drive ratio.

Have seen some mention of some different gear ratios in the shaft drive rear ends of different models.

In my microfische for GK it list the following "NT" (number of teeth) for the "final gear set" in the "propeller shaft - final drive gear".
The part set for the GKZ/GK2 (1982) 27300-45811 says "NT:11/34"
And the part set for the GKD (1983) 27300-49810 says "NT:11/32"

Can anybody say what it lists for 1100 G or GL?

It is my understanding that ALL of the shaft-drive GSs have the 11/34 or 3.09 ratio with the exception of the '83 and maybe late '82 GKs, which had the 11/32 or 2.91 ratio.

Steve,

My microfische states that for the 82 GK that both the GKZ (maroon or black) and GK2 (maybe called 'late 82', the two tone ones) have the 11/34.

My microfische states that the GKD (83) has the 11/32. My microfische doesnt say about the 1984 (maybe I just havent printed out that sheet).

So what you are saying is that all other G or GL, 850, 1000, or 1100 have the 11/34 like the 82 GKZ/GK2. And so then, if someone wanted the "taller" gearing they would want the rear drive off an 83 (or 84?) GK.

My GK is a 1984, GS1100GKE, with the taller gearing.

I'm willing to exchange my highly desirable rear end (that sounds pretty bad, eh?) with anyone. You give me your rear end (I gotta change that wording...) and $1,000 and we'll call it even.

:-D:-D:-D:-D

Redman,

That would be correct. I only knew that it was the "later GKs" that had the taller gearing. I don't know for sure exactly when the change was or how long they lasted. Evidently they changed in '83 and went at least through '84. Were there any '85 GKs?

Grandpa,

In spite of your wording, terminology, whatever, you were doing fine until you got to that "$1,000" part. 8-[

I thought GK was 82 - 83- 84 - 85 (athough only I suspect a very few 85 made/sold, have one known of maybe two myself, I can quess why).
I see in the model chart, elsewhere here on GSR, I see the GK listed for 1981 also, but I have never heard of an 81 GK, hum, maybe european only.

Correction to my previous statement:
THe difference between 34 and 32 in the ring gear would be 6% difference.
I have 82 GK (NT=11/34). I can say that 5000rpm on tach is just over 75 mph (not 70). So if I had the other gears (NT=11/32) it would be about 4700rpm for same speed, if I understand the gear ratios and do the math correctly.

No '85 GK's. Last year for the GK was 1984. You can tell the '84 GK by the two-tone grey paint, the black engine, and the large floorboard-like footpegs.

There were no '81 GK's in North America. In 1981 the big shafties were the 850G and the 1000G. The 1100G and GK first came out as 1982 models.

The regulator/rectifier unit on the 84 is different from that of the 82 GK. Not sure about the 83 model.

Of course I'm kidding about the $1,000. :-D
