Anyone have experience with Gmax helmet model GM68S ?

They are the ones with the LED lights in in the back. There are a bunch of them on our local E-bay for $117 US and come with extra shield and helmet bag.

Seems like a decent deal but I wonder how they are for fit, finish and function.

Comments please folks.

Cheers all,
Spyug

WebBikeWorld was impressed enough to name it helmet of the year:
http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/gmax/gm68s/

I've also tried one of these on in the local cycle shoppe and was mightily impressed.

The explosion of really high quality helmets for cheap in the last few years has undoubtedly saved a lot of lives. Gotta love it!

Thanks for all the info guys. It looks like a good lid so I think I'll snag one.

I'll write my reviews.

Cheers all,
Spyug

Interesting co inky-dink. I just bought the helmet with the buy it now button. Going through the checkout/payment it turns out the vendor is just 20 minutes down the road from me. I've e-mailed and asked about pick up and if possible I can scoot down Monday and get it. Saves shipping and I'll get it sooner.

Thanks again for all the helpful info.

Cheers,
Spyug

I bought one of them this year. $140 plus tax. They come with a clear visor and a smoked one, plus a carry bag.

I really like the helmet fit for me, although it can fold the ear over a bit sometimes.

It seems to be a bit noisy, but that may be due to the windshield. The Bandit has a taller-than-standard 'shield, but it still stops at chin level, so it directs a LOT of air at the head. I had the same complaint with the Bell unit I was wearing, but the Bell was quieter when I was riding the GK, so the windshield seems to be a contributing factor.

Their sizing seems to be off somewhat. I tried on a "medium" and found it fit well, which is about normal for me, but I disliked the colour.

I wanted the black one, which they did not have in "medium", so I had to try on a "small"....which happened to fit as well as the medium.

I cannot say how well other drivers see the lights work as I have had only a little time riding after being taken out at the stop light a few months ago, but the lights are what initially attracted me to the helmet, and their presence is the main reason for buying it.

Picked up the helmet this morning. I'm impressed with the finish and overall quality.
It came with a clear and smoke screen and they are easy to change out. The bags for the helmet and spare screen are good quality too.

The helmet is light not withstanding the 2 batteries to run the leds. I got a large and it seems a slightly snugger fit than my other larges but not annoyingly so.

Tons of vents so this puppy should flow a lot of air.

Going to try for a scoot after supper so I'll report back after that.

Cheers all,
Spyug.

Managed to get out for a quick after supper scoot to test the new lid.

As advertised it does flow a lot of air, especially around the top of the skull. Unlike other lids you can really feel the flow.

I had the smoked screen on and it is fine riding into the setting sun. Cuts down on the glare.

It might be a little louder than my Icon or HJC but not objectionably so.

Overall 3 thumbs up:cool:

I'd recommend it.

Cheers,
Spyug

It looks like a good lid... what colour scheme did you pick? I haven't come across any in solid colours yet, or even seen it offered with more, um, sober graphics :(. The venting usually creates most of the wind noise....even the Icon Alliance (that we both have) is substantially louder with the vents open, but pretty quiet with all vents closed. The top vent esp., creates some very entertaining, halloween-appropriate whistling sounds when open. :)

I have the Blue Crusader scheme which is two shades of blue, white and silver with stylized crosses. Not what I would normally gravitate to as I like my gear plain but its not too garish and my jackets are blue and white and one solid black. My Icon is plain silver, my HJC is white and I have a no name Corona branded flip face in silver and yellow.

I did think that this helmet is louder than the Alliance but I haven't ridden in 5 weeks so my memory is likely off. I'm hoping to get out for a longer ride or two on the weekend so I'll do a comparo to see.

Do you ride with leds on during the day or only at night? I think its a good idea to use them all the time but I wonder if it would confuse the cagers. They almost look like your flashing your brakes prior to stopping. I guess I could leave them full on.

I was originally thinking of repainting it all white but it is growing on me and I think I'll leave it as is. I looked on Gmax's site and they don't have anything in this model in a solid.

If anyone is interested, I can forward the vendors contact info.

Cheers,
Andy.

This one, which is like mine, is as tame as they come:
