Good Roads near SW Ohio

i live about 15 minutes from rocky fork lake near a town called bainbridge. there are alot of awesome roads here if you all would like to get together let me know. we could meet around jeffersonville mall or in Washington court house and do some ridin.

I haven't been down 127 in years..missed that historic site when in the area.Kinda usually follow 27 and the NS rail line down to TN.
Dogma..what can I say...1/4 mile in 10 minutes flat...can't help stopping to take pictures 40 years on the street and I am still here Like Dogma said never let a group or another rider set a faster pace than you like,you are riding for you and not them.
Besides I ride an old Yamaha..lucky it starts and makes it to the bar

That looks like a railroad crossing I go over nearly every day to work. Is that Hamilton New London road, just a little west of 27?

Duke...yuppers you are in a nice area to ride..is Seven caves still there? Rode from Chillicothe back to Cincinnati in the pouring down rain last fall on rt 50 and didn't stop til I got home. Paint Creek,the Dental Museum,Rocky Fork,RT.41...great places.

conrail the 7 caves was bought by a bunch of tree huggers and is now closed to the public. i live on falls road if you know where that is. 41 is an awesome road. her is a pic of paint creek that i took off the back deck of my house. the area over around pike lake, latham, greenfield, 753, 772 is a real twisty one too, 28 this is a real beautiful area to ride. a good meeting place for dayton/ cincinnati riders and me would be where 35 meets old 71 at the outlet mall i am open most weekends we need to get together and ride.

7 Caves is closed ??? What a shame.

There's an 8th cave, you know........I had friends, that were friends of the family that used to own the "caves" back in the early '80's. I can't remember their names right now.......They used to let us roam freely around the caves. The 8th cave was a bit of a challenge to get into. Once inside it opened up into a spherical room about 20ft around. A great place for us young folks to partake in the herb of the day.......A long time ago in a land far, far away....

That's what I thought. I live in Harrison and work in Hamilton. That is a very pleasant commute everyday for me. Little to no traffic, scenic, even a couple of twisties. Much better than taking OH128, where I get stuck behind a concrete or dump truck nearly every time I am on it.

41 is an awesome road.

Yep, especially between Sinking Springs and Locust Grove.

Then take 41 south to West Union and catch 247 to the Ohio River. Head East on 52 towards Portsmouth. Jump on 125 and ride toward West Union. A few miles past Lynx turn right on 348 and ride to Otway. Turn left on 73 and ride it back to 41 at Locust Grove.

Taken many trips on many bikes all over the world. Southern Ohio is as good as anyplace to ride.

larry d you cant even stop on cave road without someone coming up and telling you to leave. it is a crime to me not to share the beauty and shear awesomeness of the caves with everybody. longs retreat is a nice place now and barretts mill road is cool. rapid forge road, blain hwy 32 124 . we rode thru sinking springs last thursday. i too moved away for about 10 years and finally returned to Paint Valley i will not move again. no that is not an antique toilet it a chair with a flower pot in it, on of my wifes creations. i suppose you could use it in a pinch though.

Reviving this thread, because SPRING IS SPRUNG gents!! I just got Essie up and running, gotta do some tuning and some tune up runs, so keep an ear out, there will be some weekends coming up that I and Rose will be hitting the road to head south for the day, anyone who'd like to meet up and come along, more than welcome Even for a short ride and lunch!!

As soon as I get my bike up and running....and legal, I'd definitely be interested in this.

This isn't too close to SW Ohio, but I will share. I figured my long days of riding were over for awhile because my wife is almost 8 months pregnant, and I really don't want to stray too far from home right now (just in case). Yesterday morning, my wife surprised me and told me to take the day and go riding. She just had an appointment with her OB/Gyn the day before, and he told her everything was fine and there is nothing to worry about concerning possible premature births or other issues. She essentially gave me a free pass. Well, I took advantage of that. I rode 500 miles in one day, and got to add another state to my map below. I enjoy riding with my friends and other people, but sometimes I want to fly solo. That way I can go at the pace I want, stop when I want (etc). I wanted to see some mountains, so I got on S-75 and got off in Berea and took US421 East. That road looked twisty on my map, but in reality it was a bit of a disapointment. It wasn't overly scenic and really not that twisty, except for a few short bursts in the Daniel Boone National Forest. I rode that to Manchester, KY, and form there picked up KY 11 south, and my day started to get better. Though it wasn't super twisty, it still had enough turns to keep my interest, and was a very pleasant ride and the road was in fabulous shape. I took that to 25E, which I follow east to KY190. Ky190 is very twisty and very scenic, however the road is not in the greatest shape (pic below). There were poorly patched potholes, and a bit of sand and gravel in the road. I took it easy here but enjoyed the scenery. That dead-ended in TN90. TN90 was by far the best road I was on all day. It was twisty, in excellent shape, and very scenic. The only complaint I had was it was too short (pics below). If I ever took this road in the early sping, I would be very cautious. I noticed rock slides on the sholder in a few places that were recently cleaned up. I would hate to see a boulder in the road around a blind corner. I took I-75 back home, except I occasionally got off on US25 (which basically runs parallel to I-75) just to break up the monotony of the superslab.

All in all a good day, with the exception of a mystery issue I had on my bike on the way home (I posted a thread in technical about it). This was the most mileage I have done in one day.

took a great ride today me and three buddies started out in chillicothe down rt50 to 41 south thru peebles to maysville KY. then back up 62 to washington court house back on 41 south to greenfield down 28 to chillicothe. 5 hours 220 miles. weather great roads great had a real good time. the old gs ran perfectly. 41 south has to be one of the best twisty roads in southern ohio. between bainbridge and peebles is somethin else. back to back to back to back to back 25 mph curves.

It's calling me to sneak out early and ride. My mother in law will be at home to help my wife with the kids, so I have a chance to find a very creative route home from work (Hamilton to Harrison, OH) today.

It's calling me to sneak out early and ride. My mother in law will be at home to help my wife with the kids, so I have a chance to find a very creative route home from work (Hamilton to Harrison, OH) today.

Soo what creative route did ya take?
Lots of salt and sand seems to be on many intersections around here...I am not too far from Ross.
Lots of bikes out the past fews day but windy as shti.

Nothing too creative. I rode Route 4 up to Trenton, took OH 73 to Oxford, then OH 732 South to OH 129. California Rd off 129 to Harrison. It was a little cooler than anticipated. Sunny and 75 degrees cannot come soon enough for me.

My normal way home is to take New London Rd (turns into New Haven Rd, then turns into Atherton Rd.) all the way into New Haven. That's actually a pretty decent way to travel to and from work everyday.

We do have some pretty decent roads around here.Not always the most scenic but good cruising roads.I find myself over in Indiana a lot the past few years.Lots of small roads to jump on and see where they go

I have been enjoying this thread that's stretched out over a couple of years. Read it through from the beginning.

Thanks for starting it ToeJam1. I bought a bike in December and have just now got it running good and will be looking for places to ride (notice I live in Northern KY).

ToeJam1, you mentioned some places I am very familiar with. Glad to see you made it to Rabbit Hash, the bike Mecca around here. I suppose you went to the old store, got a soda, sat on the bench overlooking the Ohio River, and pet the dog (who also happens to be the Mayor).

You also were in some of my old stomping grounds when you were at the Perryville Battlefield State Park. Lots of nice roads to ride on in KY. I always wanted to ride a bike on Rt. 68 from Lexington and going South West. That was such a windy road when I lived down there. They since have ruined, I mean straightened out some of it. According to a book I read, that route basically followed an old buffalo path. I believe it because you can see how it just followed the path of least resitance. You said you were an historian. You may find that book interesting, "The Frontiersman" by Alan Eckert. If you're in Frankfurt again, you can find a route that more or less follows the KY River and follow it out to the Ohio River. You'll wind up at Carrolton, KY. Follow 42 east and you can cross over the Ohio at the Markland Dam. DON"T stop at the River Boat on the Indiana side (not a fan of gambling).

I can't wait to do more exploring and I'll take my camera to get some shots of the pretty country side in KY so I can post it on GSR.
