Got my GS 750's

Even with rattle cans that care should give a good finish.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly experienced either! My only spray experience so far was the plastic paint and I found that very easy, but they were relatively small plastic pieces, nothing like a tank or anything like that.

Other than that, everything for me is brushed on.

I'll have to change that when I get to my tank and mudguards and stuff though, will definitely need to look at spraying them properly.

I soaked my carbs in Pine Sol Like in this thread http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=165622 as you can see it was getting the grime off in this pic.Left it overnight as I had to attend my father in laws 70th birthday.

This is the result.Put in Mr Barr's O ring while I was at it.Also changed out the screws for some allen heads

That looks much cleaner! Looks like the Pine Sol's a good alternative to the Berryman's too.

I have yet to work out what I can get a hold of over here in the land of Oz, but it's not urgent at the moment.

Don't think it's as good for really gummed up carbs.Mine where not bad to begin with,mostly dirty on the outside.Had a little drama putting them together,there are little washers between the spring and the O ring on the idle jets.I lost one,started to search for it.Then I remembered I have a set of spare carbs.Came in handy for putting the enricher linkage together to.:clap:

Baked them,I've said it before but I love the fact my wife doesn't freak out when I do this.Her mother did when I let it slip I was doing that

OK when you said BBQ I thought it was Oz for something else,what exactlly I'm not sure.Did some more painting today:

The side stand is repainted gloss instead of the satin it was.Matches the center now,yeah I'm fussy!The rest is satin.Took apart the pods and gutted them.The right side one is off the 85,put one of the 83s on as the starter button was flush with the surface.It worked but was weird.The stop switch was nice and red though so I was going to get it back on the bike.Turns out the starter button is a easy fix so it's going back on.Somehow i overlooked the fact I had a nice set of aftermarket grips.Think I'll put the Progrips on anyyway as they are a bit nicer,guesse this is what happens when you have to many parts

Anyway on with my latest adventure in motorcycle refurbishment:

While they don't look to bad on the pictures they where still quite dirty.
After allot of scrubbing,sanding,polishing and painting they now look like this

I'm happy with how they look.
Little side note,a friend of mine phones me yesterday.Says he is close by and wants to show me something and get a part while he's here.He rolls up a few minutes later with a 84 GS550E in his truck he just picked up for $150.In pretty good condition for the price.Definitely better than the 84 GS750E he got for $100.

Yes he did,the only thing that was not great was it came with no keys.The funny thing is the key for his 84 GS750E work well enough to check things out.This is the key for a lock set I sold him.Weird or what?

That is weird indeed! Although I do recall an ex girlfriend of mine's mother and father had a late 70's Mazda 323 and my mother had a similar model, and they could swap keys at will... guess it's lucky they're not exactly joy ride magnets

So I got dug into more parts painting today:

Just a few odds and ends
Took the swing arm off the highest KM bike I had and it's the best of the bunch.Guess where it's goingWhen I took it apart I noticed the 83 linkage carrier was not the same as the one on the 85

The one on the left is the 85.The 83 is a welded boxed piece,the 85 is 2 slabs of steel.You would think the 83 would weigh more but it's slightly lighter.Yeah I'm putting the 83 on my bike.Partly because it's lighter and because it's in better shape.The 85 one is very rusty on one side.

Some of it will be toghther soon.Hoping to get the engine in the frame next weekend.Want to get it os a rolling chassis soon after.That's if the weather cooperates.It was snowing here this weekend.In the rest of Canada this would be expected,here it's very unusual.It didn't stick to the ground because it has not been really cold here so the ground is warm.

Sounds good! And I found once I had my rolling chassis pretty much together it gave me some more encouragement. Just the ability to roll it around the garage makes you feel good
