A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anyone know if that's the stock seat?

I'm curious because it looks more old fashioned than the seat on my '80 450. Great looking bike, and it should be easy to get that dent out of the tank since it's right below the filler cap. Very nice. Agreed the backrest and rack has to go.

Yeah that's the original seat.Had an 81,82 and 86 at various points so I may know a bit.:)

That's a great looking bike, personally I'd go through the electrical (weak point on these bikes) and dip the carbs, replacing the o rings like mentioned above, throw some new rubber on it, flush and potentially replace the brake lines, fix that crease in the tank like you say and remove that silly backrest. :D

Welcome to the fun house, as you've noticed, it's a great place to learn about all things GS. I was a Honda man for years too, Still have a few, but the GS prevails for me now. Great machines and very well built.

On the Honda forum someone asked if it was a single wall on the tank. Said he would fix it although it would need a repaint.

Replies are much appreciated.

It's gotta go,,

Yeah, back rest has to go. I'll hang onto the rack but will remove it.

Any paintless dent repair place could do that one perfectly and cheaply. Hard to tell from pics but that paint looks pretty good. Might be worth it.

Limited in my area but I'll research.

Thanks, the 86 was to be the wife's first bike.Turned out she can't and probably shouldn't ride a bike:(I'd thought about keeping it for me but it is a bit small for my 6'2" 200lbs frame. It was up for sale recently, the guy was using my old pics:p

Bike arrived! Wow! This is a nice example.

I'll start a build thread with PB pictures later today.

Remember, I have questions, you have answers.

Thanks!

When I did Honda's they were all stock. Only original once of which this will be right down to paint. I do like red however.

No cafe stuff in my Shop. Some bikes that are to far gone maybe but not this one.

UGH ! ! ! Red will make it slower...

Nice find... A little patience and that will be a sweet ride.

Plenty of patience and time.

Retired 3 years now.

I like red.
