    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS 1150 Electrical Specialist - Rebuild Electrical System

I currently own a 1985 Suzuki 1150 ESF and would like to find an individual who specializes in electrical systems rebuild. Based on the age, and the increasing electrical problems, the electrical system needs to be examined. Due to my work load and commute time, 78 hours/week, I do not have the time to personally get involved in this project.

I live in Agoura Hills, CA (between Calabasas & Thousand Oaks), looking for someone in the Valley or the South Bay that can perform this rebuild for me.

I would check for a NOS wirring harness, and then see about having someone replacing it.

Excellent advice.

Having seen what is inside harnesses, what you usually find are corroded or loose connections, crushed and abraded wires, and even a melted one sometimes.

It takes much less time to replace it entirely than to rebuild a harness. A rebuilt one, done well, would be better than new, but you made it clear you do not have the time.



If you are already having recurrent problems, your best bet would be to replace the harness.

The charginsg system, stator and Regulator/rectifier, can be checked easily , by following the instructions on the Stator Papers found n the Forum.
 
Depending what your problems are there is one fix that can eliminate a few headaches.

The removal of the self monitoring unit. This cured a few problems with my bike. I don't remember who posted the fix but I saved it.

Here are the instructions for removing the Monitoring unit on the GS1150/GSX1100EF.
This procedure will disconnect the Headlamp warning system, the Tail lamp warning system, and the Battery warning system.
Firstly there are two plugs connecting the Monitoring system to the wiring harness, one is a 9 pin plug and the other is a 8 pin plug.
Using a wiring diagram while following these instructions is helpful,
but it is a pretty straightfoward removal.

1. The White wire on the 9 pin plug should be connected to the Red and White on the 9 pin plug.

2. The White wire on the 8 pin plug should be connected to the Red and Blue wire on the 8 pin plug.

3. The Yellow wire on the 9 pin plug should be connected to the Red and Yellow wire on the 9 pin plug.

4. The following wires should be left disconnected.

- Yellow and Green wire (Headlamp warning system)
- Both White and Green wires (Tail light warning system & Sidestand(This will not affect the Sidestand warning light))
- Green and Blue wire (Battery warning system)
- Green and Red wire (Battery warning system)
- Orange and Green (Unneeded power feed)
- Green and Yellow (Oil pressure - but will not affect the Oil
pressure warning system)
- Black and White (Unneeded earth wire)

5. The only wires left now should be the two brown wires on the 9 pin plug.
These need to be identified, one is from the tail light and the other can
be left disconnected.
Trial and error is the easiest way to find out which is which.
The brown wire from the tail light needs to be spliced into the Yellow
and White wire that comes from the lighting switch on the right
handlebar.
So pick one of the brown wires and splice it into the Yellow and White
wire, then turn your headlights on. If your tail light lights up
congratulations you picked the right one the first time.
If it does not then it is the other Brown wire.
