    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS 450 -81 nozzle press fit?

I'm Viggo from the north of Sweden. I have a GS450 I'm spending the winter with. I was planning to change nozzles in the carburettor and opened it up to remove the old ones. But they seem press fit - there's no screw hole or anything to get hold of to get them out. Does anyone know how to replace them? I do not want to use violence and destroy my carbs... I guess it is possible in some way?

Nozzles? Do a search for Carb tutorial and read Bikecliff's website, especially the Carb tutorials. Whole new world of knowledge in there for our bikes.


If you are talking about the air fuel mixture screws, they are capped with a plug from the factory. The plug can be drilled, but you need to be VERY VERY careful not to let the drill bit hit the head of the screw once it pops through the plug. Once drilled, the plug can be pulled out by screwing a slightly too large sheet metal screw into the plug... Twist and pull. Check out the Carb tutorials before you do any drilling. I would hate to see you destroy a Carb drilling the wrong cap.

Hmm I do not really know English therminology... It's the tube with a needle in it going up from the floater house. We call it the Swedish word for nozzle at least. Usually they have a cut for a screwdriver so you can change them but mine hasn't - in any end.

It sounds like you're talking about the needle jet, and in that case yes it is definitely an interference fit in the carb housing, it doesn't screw in.

It's held in place by an O ring.

A pair of pliers can be used to remove them, but be careful and apply force gently to avoid scoring the needle jet or breaking it.

BassCliff's site has a carb rebuild document specifically for these carb's written by Flaming Chainsaws. That will cover the whole process for you :)
