A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I am putting my 78' 750 back together after not being the one who took it apart. I think i did pretty well ( it starts, runs and idles). I am haveing trouble with the back shocks. the left side has the handle bar for help with the center stand and with a washer or two seem to push it far enough out so the acorn nuts seem to work on the left side. I am haveing trouble with the right side. there is just to much run on the stud to keep the shock from moveing. i built it out with some washers but i know that can't be right. I just don't see anymore parts in my parts pan that would fit over the stud. i'm sure i will need to get a part of some sort i was just hoping to have and idea of what it was. (the shop by me won't work on my bike b/c of it's age) so they have no clue.

any help would be very much appreciated

Yeah there are a shocking number of washers on these things! Deves, maybe if you posted a picture it would help. As I was told when I stripped one of my studs, there isn't a lot of lateral movement so you just need to get it snug and tight, don't torque it way down.

I went through that with my 750 and after a lot of research I wrote down all the washers and sizes and the order they went on, and I CAN"T FIND MY LIST:(

However, you can figure it out from the parts diagrams and part descriptions. There are a lot of washers, but some of them are really thick - like 2-3 mm. Use this http://alpha-sports.com/spst/1978 GS750E/07.htm. In the part description the washer size is listed for most of them. For example, #15 is listed as
15 09160-10001
WASHER, OUTER
4 B,C,EC,N,EN;
10.5x24x2.3
which means

you need 4 of them and they have the following dimensions:

10.5 mm inside diameter (hole size)
24 mm outside diameter
2.3 mm thick

They all add up to the same thickness on both sides with the handle acting like a large washer on the left side.

Have fun...
