If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

So at this point I'm trying to find a replacement exhaust system for my 1982 GS850G. it's got a thoroughly rusty Kerker 4-1 on it, so I KNOW aftermarket exhaust systems exist. But they seem impossible to find! Does anyone know a vendor who deals in exhaust systems for this bike, or am I just doomed to keep poking around on ebay and craigslist forever?

Keep in mind, I'm not a wealthy biker, so when someone pops up and says "I have an exhaust but you have to buy it now" - doesn't usually work for me - I usually have to save a couple of pennies to buy it - which is why a dealer is better.

Any ideas?

Vance and Hines still make exhausts for the 8v GS heads. The mounts will require you to fab something up to make it work in the back, as i think most of the designs are the same, as the head ports are the same from 8v head to 8v head. And, if you've already got a 4into1 on it, and its running well, likely you wont have to rejet at all, just tweak some.

OK, I checked out their products website, I didn't see anything listed that looked remotely similar, but I sent their tech guys an email - maybe I'll get a response. Thanks for the pointer!

Rear muffler mount is different for the 82 vs. earlier bikes. One guy here posted a thread in the Performance Mod forum where he wrote to V&H and they told him the 850 header would fit but the mount would have to be customized (as Cafe said). I have no personal experience...just sharing.:)

Like, you'd likely have to get a cutting torch and welder involved? I think I could probably arrange that - as long as the headers fit. Does anyone know if those 1100 headers fit on the 850?

Yes, yes, and yes :) ALL of the 8v heads (and i think the 16 valve heads except for the GS700?? but im not possitive) from 750 UP have the same head port spacing. So conceiveably, you can use a 750 pipe on an 1100G, and vice verce. The only thing that is different on the Vance and Hines pipes is the location of the rear mount. Now, honestly, you could even fab a bracket that DID NOT require welding, by using the existing mount on the bike, and some flat bar stock, and some bolts. Its not as tough as you are thinking it probably is sir :)

Did you want another 4-! exhaust system? MAC should have on that fits your bike.

I have an original 4-2 exhaust system that will fit your bike. Start saving your pennies.:)

I always have to laugh because I see it every time I search. There is a guy on ebay with a brand new still wrapped in plastic stock exhaust for my 81 GS100G. He wants $1200.00 for it. Needless to say it's been listed for about 4 months at least.

82 - 83 (& 81 I think) 850 Exhausts (new after market) do not exist. Sorry :) I have been looking for months probably close to a year now. You can get 80's from Mac but the difference is the mounting tab will be on the wrong side of the muffler, it will be down instead of up.

You could always try an 1100 too as the headers match and the mufflers show them mounting up. But, something has to be off about it or the manufacturer would list it as 850 compatible :P

Also V&H does make a 4 - 1 for an 81 GS850G which SHOULD work on an 82 - 83 but since they dont say it does again I would think they would know :P

You could always try the X pipe ;)

BikeBandit is the best source for the usual brand pipes. If you get one let me know how it works out. I have been up to this point unwilling to gamble with $350 :P

Well the guy who had the bike before me clearly did something to this Kerker, whether it was customized or not, I don't know.

JayH - shoot me a PM and let me know how much you want for it. There's a decent chance I could get it together over a couple of weeks.

I read that whole Jehovah's Witness article on the X-pipe. It looks like crazy street racing stuff. I want gas mileage, not more speed. the GS850's got plenty of speed.
