    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Yet another idle thread,

This morning I decided to take the vacumn off the petcock. I suspect I am having petcock promblems, It seems to want to die when idleing for extended periods.

I have ran it for a couple days on prime and that seems too have fixed that problem. After looking at the vacumn line it is pretty cracked so I block it off at the #2 carb and at the petcock. But when I fired it back up it just stays at 3000 RPM.

Thinking the previous owner had bumped up the idle speed to mask another problem I tried to adjust it down but backing the adjuster out 3 turns has no effect.

Any Ideas? I plan to replace the vacumn hose and purchase another petcock, but I really dont want to tear the bike down till the snow flies. Then I will pull the carbs off and give them a good inspection.


I did try other vacumn caps as well. The intakes were replaced 500 miles ago as well and I checked the clamps that hold the carbs.

have you cleaned the carbs and replaced the o-rings? :-k

I am a little baffled by the fact that all I did was plug off the vacumn line and this problem showed up.

I would have thought it would have done the opposite looking at the condition of the vacumn line. I just got back from a 5 mile test ride. Other than the 3K idle it runs good. Sounds smooth, No popping and it does idle down when I let off the throttle but stays at about 2800 RPM . I also checked to make sure the throttle cable had some slack , which it does.

Edit: I stole the hose off my Vacumn gage, No change. I did take a vacumn reading, about 12 Lbs. with a little flutter which I expected.

i plugged the vacuum system after it stated sucking gas into the engine. i went permanent manual. BUT, i also had flaky idle problems til i rebuilt the carbs, replaced carb o-rings and boot o-rings. it took a little teaking for a good fuel mix...sometimes i'm a little slow on mechanics :rolleyes:, but now? work good, last long time. idle stays consistent

No effect? at some point the throttle plates will close down enough for the engine to stall. Something must be hanging them up, OR you have a intake air leak, despite any claims that all is tight from carbs to engine. Those carb clamps can fool you, especially on old hard boots.

I wonder if there is a problem with the idle speed adjuster. Its really hard to turn. I cant see it but I will try to use an inspection mirror to look at it.

Rubber boots are pretty new and I checked the clamps.
