A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok I'm rebuilding an '83 gs850g and the igniter on this bike is dead. So I can get an igniter off a 1100 with regulator used (not sure if it will work on my bike) or I can put in a new ignition system from Z1 or some other place.

If I should put in a new system, which should I go with?

Found the link I was looking for: Dyna 2000 Electronic Ignition and Coils DYDDK3-2C Suzuki GS550/750/850/1000/1100
DYDDK3-2C

http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=1981

Is this a good replacement? Better than either getting a used one or a new replacement?

Added more information to orginal post..

Any coments on replacing the igniter with an after market unit?

What is the part number on your original igniter? I have a spare one here that I can not use. Let's see if you can use it instead.

.

The part on my bike is 32900-49420 or 49410, I have to look it up again as my phone ate my message to myself. I'd like to get that and the rectifier that is attached to it.

Ok, verified that the part number is 32900-49420. There was another number on the igniter: 1311100-3520.

Thanks.

Talked to Jeff at Z1Enterprises and he informed me that this dyno2000 wont work on my bike due to the plate not being of a correct fit. So.. Guess that leaves me looking for a part.

Thank you Steve for offering your igniter.. too bad it is not the same as on my bike.

Are you talking about a CDI unit or the signal trigger. The CDI should work.

I'm talking about the CDI, black box on left side of bike under seat area after you sit on it.

So, your saying that a 32900-49410 will work and replace the 32900-49420 CDI? Is there anything that is needed to make this work or is it plug & play??

I went and looked at the CDI on the gs1000 and it was not even close to what I have in size or part number. :(

So, From what I understand so far the 32900-49410 and 49420 are more or less interchangeable. I may have to do some wiring modification to make the 49410 work on my bike.

I could try and find a used cdi or shell out close to $400 for a new one. I wouldn't mind putting a new ignition system in place like the Z1Enterprises dyno but it won't fit and they don't make one for my year GS..

So, What are my other options?

Thanks

I've looked at those and have asked the part numbers..

32900-49118 is one of the part numbers and have no clue if this will work for my bike. I'm assuming not.

One last question, think I read that the 32900-49420 can be replaced by the 32900-49410 and you may have to do some rewireing. If this is the case then I can get one off ebay listed there that looks like it is in very good condition.

Really trying hard to get this gs 850 running. It was neglected and givin to me since I wanted to restore it. So far, bored and rebuilt the engine because previous owners left the plugs out and a 1/2 inch of crud accumulate on top of the pistions. This electrical stuff is what is hanging me up atm and I'd love to get this sorted out.. been a year on the rebuild as time and money permits. So close yet so far....
