GS1000 fork caps query

Was the GS1000 ever sold in the US with pre-load adjustable fork caps?

My original intention was to use the GS850 ones but Suzuki cunningly made them a different thread pitch, for some oddball reason.

So, what I need is a pair of M30x1 pre-load adjusters, either from a GS1000 or something else that uses that size.

I've ended up with a spare pair of air-adjuster caps, so if necessary I can fill them and tap them for an adjuster bolt, but I'd rather have something that's already done and dusted and have no worries about strength or leakage.

Not in the US

I suspected so, thanks.
The 37mm forks lasted a while, but not long enough for there to be a back catalogue of useful bits from various markets to mix'n match.
I've probably gone as far as I can with this setup - the air suspension worked well, but continally topping it up was a pain, so the tubes now host a pair of Wilbers Promoto progressive springs originally intended for a GS1100E, and while they will probably work well, I'd like to have the option of adjusting preload easily.
I'd like to find that, for example, the GS1100 was sold in Europe with preload adjusters, but likely not.

How often do you plan on having to adjust the preload? :-k

I would think that no more than an hour of testing when you assemble the forks and put them on will get you to the correct preload, then there should be no need to adjust from there.

I won't be adjusting it a lot, but it's a bit irksome that I have a set of perfectly good adjusters that won't fit.
In use, I hardly ever bothered re-setting them, but it's nice to have the option.

Steve's right, preload is pretty much a "set and forget" adjustment for 99% of street riders.
Measure sag, cut new spacers to get it to the correct value and never mess with it again.

GS1100E's are same diameter forks and have adjusters. Not sure about the thread pitch.

Useful information, thanks.
Somewhat appropriate that the springs I bought are for an 1100E.
Now to find someone with an 1100E who doesn't mind taking a cap off to measure it.

<edit>
Just re-measured the old 850 pre-load caps and they're a different diameter - the threads are the same as the 1000, at 1mm pitch.
So, I was slightly mis-recalling. Not a different thread, but fatter. The 850 thread is 31.7mm major diameter, whereas the 1000 caps are 30mm.
31.7mm major diameter doesn't seem to correspond with a standard metric fine thread, so might be an oddball one that Suzuki chose quite deliberately for some reason.
Anyway, if the GS1100 caps are 30mm x 1 that will do.

Thanks for that. I'd not be surprised to find they're the same thread as the 850 Euro legs.
No matter, I have another method underway.
