A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hi everyone...i have a question...i own a 1978 gs1000c...and i also have a 1982 gs1100e motor....i want to put the 1100 motor in the 1000 frame...has this ever been done??? i believe back in the late 70s, or early 80s, some bike publications featured some bikes with this mod.....i've made measurments..and the 1100 motor seems close to the 1000's dimensions for the mounts...some mounts will have to be modified...thanks...oh yes..i am building a retro cafe racer..using the tracy body fairing from ebay, raask rearsets, etc...(i read discussion on the fairing...it's in pretty poor shape...will have to reglass the tank area...cracks, leaks, etc...but can be saved....thanks.....mark.

I'm not sure about the engine fitting, it probably will fit, but I do know that me and a lot of other people here on the forum would like to see the progress of your project, do you have a digital camera? Want to keep us updated as the work progresses?

You will have to fabricate a motormount for the bottom left side, under the shifter. Not a big problem. The fuel valve on the "78" model tank will rest on the top of the CV carbs. You can use a longer bolt for the rear tank mount. & use washers to shim up the rear of the tank enough keep the fuel valve off the carbs. Also will need to adapt wireing harness for the 1100's electronic ign. Use a GS 1100 4 into 1 pipe, it should work on the 1000 frame, with a little mod. to right rear foot peg mount. Can't think of anything else. Good luck

In addition to the above, I seem to remember that one of the front engine mounts needs to be changed from an offet one to a straight one, or vice versa. Otherwise a straight swap using the original mounts.
