    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Can anyone recommend a high quality, high performance, easy to install oil cooler for the GS1000?

I installed a Derale brand on my 1100. Took me about an hour. It didn't need the oil sensor taps or oil filter cover taps. It had taps that screwed into the two large bolts under the oil filter and you had to block a port inside the oil filter cavity. but this may be just with my engine. I live in a desert and it's works very well.

Any reasonable auto transmission cooler(get one from a junkyard/wrecker/breaker), plus associated plumbing, and adaptor.

the oil cooler part is easy to get, earls or jc whitney or a transmission shop have them. the hard part is getting the adapter.

or you maybe able to buy a adapter from ape racing they sell a top end oiler kit and looks like the take the oil from the sensor area, which is where you need to. and i think the 1100 and the most of the other gs share the same oil sensor plate, atleast my 550 and my 1k did.

Contact "Terry" a member here,for an adaptor plate. he has made his own and now sells them, it goes where the oil light switch is below the camchain tensioner behind the cylinder block.

I've had my Derale since the early '80s, and my recollection is that it came with a preconfigured replacement oil filter cover.

BTW Bill, I know that you are a chef and work with food all day, but I'm sure you don't live in a dessert but a desert.:-D
 
The 2 valve motors hook up different, don't have access to the oil gallies in the front like the 4 valve motors & need the adapter -- Replaces the
oil pressure sending unit
 
Can you use the adapter from a 2 valve KZ1000? The GS specific ones are tough to track down.
 
PJ, if you do indeed make it down for the Yosemite trip I'll show you a unique oil cooler solution for the GS1000. I've been keeping it under my hat while I test the prototype. So far I have close to 1000 miles with no troubles. Filter changes are going to be a hassle though.

Sorry to keep you in suspense. Actually, I would place a high value on you opinion when you see it.

In the mean time, if you want one of Terry's adapters I have one. You can try it if you like. PM me with your addy. I don't have it anymore.

No. The Kawi is different. You need Terry's adapter or one like this:



Or you need to get with Tom and run the lines the way he did.... which is probably how I'm going to do mine on my project.

I used one of Terry's adapters... works a treat, and I was able to rout the lines to the cooler underneath the tank, so that (IMO) it's all tidy and out of the way.

I ended up using a cooler off a GSX 750EF (or something like that); anything bigger just wouldn't fit in well between the tacho cable beneath and the bikini fairing (with the steering on full lock) above.

That's one of Terry's adapters. I bought one for my GS1100. Worked fine. Then I switched to an 1150 EFE cover. So Terry's setup is no longer needed. Here's what it looked like on my bike.

I now use -6 AN fittings & SS braided lines on both my bikes. Got them from Summit Racing. A lot less expensive than Earl's, or Russell's. Sorry, I have no pics yet of either bike. I'll hafta get some.
 
How much more oil did you have to add to your bikes when using an oil cooler?
