A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hey gs luvrs!
i just did my first oil change on the bike this weekend and all went well except when i started it up. oil comes rapidly out of the edge of the oil filter plate. i stopped the engine then tightened the bolts down more... then noticed that they wouldnt tighten.. they just would spin as if the threads are stripped.... very bad news. SOO...

Has anyone had to Rethread the screw pins (#13 in the image) that hold on the oil filter plate? they stick out off the engine case so I am at a loss here... are you able to just replace those screws somehow?? Or should I have a machine shop cut off the screws and bore threaded holes so that it would be able to hold the oil plate?

let me know if you have had to do anything like this... very scary.

thanks!

ryan

It might be your acorn nuts. Try using regular nuts on the studs with a lock washer. My nuts were stripped. Worse case senario you can remove those studs and buy new ones.

Worst case would be if the threads for the studs are stripped. Not a big deal, use helicoils good as new. If studs or nuts are stripped even easier repair.

thanks! i will try switching out the bolts first but i really feel like the screw threads are stripped. where did you find the helicoils?

i had the exact same problem on my 80 gs 1000.the studs are not stripped.the end threads where the acorn nuts go on are stripped and or the threads inside the acorn nuts are as well.unscrew the studs with some vice grips, go to ace hardward or similar place and get some new studs for about$1.50 each, and 2 new acorns for about 0.57 each and reinstall, and you are done.the studs come the exact right length already.
