If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

GS1000 petcock filter.

The tank sat for 4? years with gas in it.
Even using Stabil, the fuel filter in the tank has turned to mush.
None of the petcock repair kits i have seen contain a filter.
Do i just do without and go with an in-line filter? Any suggestions?

You can operate without that screen, and I suspect that a mainly clogged petcock screen is one major under-diagnosed problem.

My 82 GS850 would stammer & die at highway speeds again and again -- and I'd have to wait with the petcock on Prime for a minute or two, and then I'd be back in business for maybe a mile. I gutted that screen, and the problem was gone forever.

Sorry, I don't have a specific suggestion for an inline filter. Some forum users think that they're an extremely bad idea, but I think as long as they're plumbed properly you'll be OK.

Try ebay for a new petcock

Try ebay for a new petcock

I've seen them for sale on ebay NOS and aftermarket.
Between $59.00 for after market & $99 for NOS,

Thanks for the replies.
I had the idea that the '78/'79 GS1000 petcock was a unique part?

It is kinda unique, mainly because of the positioning of the fuel and vacuum lines, separates it from others, but then again, they all share many of the same parts.
You can if you wish still buy one new.
But it will cost you, $267.29 plus shipping at Boulevard Suzuki, and that's a discounted price from retail, $356.32.
Item 1-1 or 1-2 in this parts fiche.

Makes me glad I bought a spare for my 79 gs850. OEM from BikeBandit like $67 during a sale 4-5 years ago..

Yeah i remember when that price jump happened 5? or so years ago.
I bought a couple used ones off EBay when the price jumped and now i have 3 that need attention all without filters.

Don't know why, but it seems all the other new oem petcocks sell for at least half a much. Still a $100 is allot to pay for a petcock I think.

take out the petcock of the tank and
put the petcock into a jar with alcohol for 24 hours

alternative you can disassemble the petchock and clean with alcohol

Funny....I bought the "almost as cheap" one for my GS1000G. Came in the mail today and when I went out to grab the tank I realized it already had one on it! I could have sworn it was missing. must have been thinking about the parts bike tank. Haven't tested the one that's on there who knows, I might still need it. Guess I need to pay closer attention though
