All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1000 weekend racer...

I've been building a GS for a couple of years. Don't ask, you won't like my answer... )-:

I believe the engine is a late 78 early 79 model. I purchased the engine off of a garage floor. Stuffed it in a frame, added a good set of carbs and it runs well. I didn't note any transmission/clutch basket noise or rattle at all and I've ridden it around. Bike is completely pulled apart to finish frame mods and then once those are done and my health holds out, I'm going to get it ready for next years race season. Bracket racing and maybe some speed runs.

However, I've come across a situation that I've searched until my eyes crossed and I wet my pants. But for the life of me, any type of performance clutch basket cannot be found.
The rivet/spring kit is still available but no basket. I've even searched here and other sites, the www and Google'd until it was time to punch out and go home.

Did I miss something somewhere or am I $hit out of luck?
I've seen some scarce info about fitting an 1150et basket to the 1000 hub with machine work but nothing concrete.
I'm not made of money but willing to build a solid clutch for what I want to do. And for the bike I'm building, I'm going to need a stout unit.

FTW: I've reached out to APE and they have nothing for the GS1000 and know of nothing.

Please advise,
Thank You

Get the springs and rivets, do the existing basket, use till it has to be done again.
It's worth sourcing a spare complete basket and taking it with you to the races along with the tools needed for a trackside replacement.

After looking into everything today. This was my only conclusion. Run it till it breaks then do it all over again.
If anyone reading this has a line on anything heavy duty, reach out to me.

Thanks Greg and all that stop to read.
