gs1000g carb repair kit, small fibre washer, any ideas where it fits?

Hi

I just bought a carb kit, it seems none of these kits have any labelling on them or instructions (its a bit annoying!). I worked out where most of the parts go except one small fibre washer. I think it is for under the main jet as it seems the right size.

The fiber washer supplements the float bowl gasket and fits down over an aluminum plug pressed into the carb body.

As an aside, you may want to check the carb rebuild tutorial linked in my signature to be sure there isn't anything you are missing during the rebuild job.

Yes, I am following the carb rebuild guide, its just what I need. That's interesting about the bowl gasket I would never have thought that, I can't see it mentioned on the parts list. I was thinking it was maybe number 44

just had a closer look at it and it seems to be made of rubber after all, here's a closer image of it

My new carb gasket doesn't have a hole there, but I put the rubber washer under the gasket anyway at the spot you mentioned and it seems ok.

There is no hole, it goes in the recess in the carb body. However millions of carbs have been reassembled without it and don't leak. Unlike the needle and seat in ebay carb kits

Yep, the needle on my kit doesn't appear to have a soft sealing face on it, maybe it the leaky kind!

On some carbs, that aluminum plug sits flush with the gasket surface on others, it's recessed in a bit. I have not noticed any pattern as to which carbs are flush and which are recessed, but I have had many of the recessed ones fall out when the carbs came out of the dip.

Without that fiber (or rubber) washer/o-ring, the plug will only be able to fall to the bowl gasket level, but it will still be a serious air leak.
