A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1000G locked up engine

My current build is a 1980 1000G shafty, The engine was locked up sometime between the beginning of the build where it spun freely to the now, so I squirted PB blaster in cylinder and let it set eventually breaking it free. Now I am worried that the engine may need new rings due to a low compression. That being said I have not done an official compression test because the battery in the bike died. I can however push the bike down the driveway while in gear. The bike will pull itself under its own power but wasn't able to check the real acceleration due to no brakes installed yet

so my questions are as follows

1. Will the rings re-seat after a little running?

2. Is there something I can do to help the process?

3. How long does this take to re seat if it does free the rings up?.

4. The engine starts and runs, idles well but I didn't let it run too long because the oil leak where I had the engine welded, but did check and it pulls itself under its own power.

just looking for guidance on what to do.

I'd focus on getting the bike running first. Be sure to adjust the valves and properly rebuild the carbs. Then go put some miles on the bike and see how it runs. After a couple hundred miles then perform a compression check if you want to know how well the engine is sealing.

Thanks Ed, the carbs have been completely rebuilt and bench synced new o-rings plus sealed the intake, replaced the boots O rings. the Bike overall seems to run pretty smooth and revs just fine, will sit there and idle just fine. I just wondered what the possibility of the rings sealing back up were.
Also on a different note I didn't find that carb choke bracket you messaged me about for the bs34 carbs

here is a video of the first start up

ps i know its smoking there was oil that was soaked up by the header wrap, which will be coming off shortly
