A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1000G Running on 1, 2, and 4 Number 3 remains dead

Replaced plug twice, cleaned carbs twice now. All the same jets etc. Compression as follows: 1 = 140psi, 2 = 130psi, 3 = 130psi, 4 = About 135psi - all 4 cylinders still within Suzuki specs. Bike runs on the mentioned three cylinders only. Number 3 plugs come out wet every time I check.

Put number 2 HT lead on 3 and number 3 HT lead on 2 but still same result.

Valve clearances was done a week ago and got most of them to about 0.05mm clearance so I do not believe that it is valve clearances. The number 4 inlet valve clearance is slightly over 0.08 mm because I cannot find a thicker shim to bring it down.

Even if there is a slightly burned valve on 3, it should still run with the usual misfire that goes with it

Anyone ever had such a problem? - maybe time for the junkyard?

Found the problem. When removing carbs I always put a piece of rag into the inlet to ensure nothing gets in there while I am working on the carbs. For some dumb reason, I did not remove the rag on cylinder 3
So please do make fun of me, I have it coming:cool:

Ha !

Good that you found it.

So your description of the problem could have said "this all started after the last time I put the carbs back on".

Good troubleshooting. You checked compression, and swapped plugs and swapped sparkplug leads, and observed symptoms stay on same cylinder. ....and concluded must be carb related. . . and you were correct.

One issue you gave yourself now though are those valve clearances. You want them at the upper end near .08mm and NOT .04 or you could be replacing valves soon
