I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

GS1000S replacement mirrors?

Pantera Mike

Forum Apprentice
I purchased my 1980 GS1000S yesterday. I know the fairing-mounted mirrors are unique, and unobtanium. I would like to preemptively remove them and replace them with something that attaches in the same place and looks reasonably correct. If they worked better that would be a bonus.

Would RG500 Gamma or early GSXR mirrors work? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I have purchased a couple of the 3d ones but haven't finished them off for the bike yet...the look great. I have originals on mine....

Any pictires and pricing details?? im interested in maybe doing the same thing and storing my originals away too.

As it happens, thanks to another helpful fellow here I was able to make contact with the manufacturer in Australia.

This is what he sent me:

Good idea to remove the mirrors as they are worth lots. I can help with copies of them.
I've been 3d printing mirror parts for the guys on the Facebook page as a hobby. Original mirrors are hard to find and super expensive so this is my way of helping them I’m selling them as Kits, as per photos.
They will need sanding, painting and assembly. Instruction included but it’s a simple job to finish, I just don’t have the time for the sanding painting etc
The spacers are to allow you to see more than your elbows by moving the mirror out 25cm.They are not necessary but do improve you rear view

Cost is $AUD 280, spacers are $AUD 40 and come with the longer mount screws. Postage, including tracking is $AUD 50 . Payment by PayPal

Pic attached.

Damn. That coverts to only 235 US dollars!! Thats a hell of a deal if you ask me. I use SEM trim black ultra on plastic parts so finishing isnt a big deal. Ive never tried clearing over trim paint but id have to give it a go because the factory stems were pretty glossy.

I’ve had several requests for pics of the mirrors and spacers. Here are a couple I got from the seller showing them on his bike.

The price has gone up a bit as the material has gone up a lot plus the method and the machine has changed over time.
Unfortunately the machine that does the hard work is waiting on parts from the USA so im not able to make them for the next week or so.

An update—I got Rob’s mirrors installed and they are terrific. What is especially useful are the spacers. You wouldn’t think adding an inch would make so much difference but it really does. The view to the rear is vastly improved.

here are some pics:

I should add that Rob has been amazingly helpful. I actually turned the mirror kit over to a semi-pro to finish for me. He failed to RTFM and glued the glass in before joining the two halves of the assemblies. When he tried to get the glass out, both broke!

He contacted Rob, who sent replacement glass out the same day. Amazingly it arrived in just four days! The mirrors were completed yesterday, and I installed them today. Kudos to Rob for not only a terrific product, but terrific service too! Thanks!
