I have the smaller chain conversion. (1 tooth up from stock on rear). I did this year's ago for quicker et, before the 1166. It now seems geared so low, breaks traction sometimes in roll on in 1st. When riding in gravel roads, hard to accelerate in 1st,or2nd, without wheel spin. When coasting in 1st or 2nd down a gravel hill, and u shut the throttle, it slides the tire sometimes. It will pull 5th down to 40mph no problem. I'm 61 now and don't care as much bout et. Was thinking 1up on front would help all these , and mpg also. So has anyone done this?

As long as you have room for the larger sprocket there is no reason you can't use it. Acceleration will be a little slower off the line and you may need a longer chain is all.

1 tooth, adjustment is mid way, so should not be a chain problem. Is their a chance it won't fit under the cover? 82 silver engine?
I was under the impression fitment would not be a problem? I was concerned that it might gear it too high? But I rode today and noticed it pulls nicely at 3k in 5th gear, even up light grades, accelerates quiet well. 1st, now is almost un useable? But 2nd is a tad too high for some yard or gravel poking?
I've ordered 1. 17$ shipped. Ive wasted more than that on a crap meal before so maybe I'll like it.
Is their a chance it won't fit stock frame, cover, or clear something?
thanks!

There is no way for us to tell you if it will fit since we don't know what sprocket you have on the bike now.

If it turns out to be too large, you can drop three teeth from the rear to get the same difference.

.

Sprocket on(18), no fitment problems. It's now 18-50. Can't hardley tell any difference?
still pulls well down to 3.5K, in 5th. Seems to accelerate just as well as it did. Son rode it last night, said rear came loose in a 1st gear roll on, just like before. He also thinks it pulls to 100, just as quick as before. Im leaving the 18 on!

18/50 is 2.78 stock gearing is 2.80 so you are a little bit taller than stock.

I have 17/40 on my both GS 1150 (GSX 1100 EFE here in Europe).
One is 1296cc natural aspirated and the other is 1327cc supercharged & fuel injected.
Both have good acceleration.

I suspect those massive motors would provide "good acceleration" with almost any gearing. haha.

Son rode it last night. He...thinks it pulls to 100..

On yesterday's ride, I had it up to 105 before I ran out of room. Of course, a little bit past 115 and I run out of guts. But it was still pulling strong, and mine's stock except for intake and exhaust.

1 tooth lower in the front more for drag,Quick acceleration.1 up more cruising,Stock gearing is hard to beat conciderations including, use and function you want to obtain.
