DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I need to replace the clutch basket on my 1980 gs1100. I've heard that certain years had baskets different than the one from my bike. Could I use a 1983 1100 basket?

Hi chef1366,
I have a 1982 GS 1100GL with (75k miles) a very bad clutch basket. I have an opportunity to purchase a very nice, complete, used (only 23k miles) 1980 GS 1100E clutch basket including the upgraded APE nut. Will the 1980E clutch work in my 1982GL?
Thanks
sbmisajw

shaft drive large CC 8 valve baskets are the same as 80-83 1100E/ES and are interchangeable both ways.
same goes for the inner hub and steels and fibers.
ray,
sorry for not getting back to you....call me again if i'm still needed.

It appears that 'rapidray' and 'blowerbike' have different experiences on whether or not the 1980 1100 E clutch will fit on my 82 1100GL. I'm going to purchase the 1980 1100E clutch basket and compare them side by side and report back.
Thanks all,
sbmisajw

my experience in parting out 1980 and later USA model chain and shaft large GS's (1100cc) models is that the baskets have the same depth/tooth count/clutch style and inner hub type.
i believe Ray was speaking of 1000cc 8 valve chain drive, possibly pre-1980 model's.
as with anything the seller of the parts need to know exactly what they are selling..a lot oF ebay sellers GUESS or ASSUME.
