    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1100 Looking for firm suspension

Hey Guys,
In my bike build, I put in some cheap suspension, just to get me through. Now I'm looking to replace it with some very firm rear suspension. I need to limit the travel of the rear wheel, and would like something pretty firm.

I've read quite a bit on suspension, but wanted some advice from forum members about this.

I have mdi shocks on my bike and they are pretty firm and cheap. Or you could get Progressive shocks but they will run you a couple hundred or more.
 
I can vouch for progressive shocks. I had them on my CB650 and they give a great feel. The ride will depend on the choice of spring and the pre load setting. I wish like heck I could put the shocks on my GS...


One thing about progressive shocks... Most I know of only come with the shocks. Springs are sold separate.
 
yeah you're right the springs are seperate! haha...
I'll do some more research.
 
90 kgs is not what we would call heavy here in the US. Those MIDI shocks have decent reviews other than they are very firm, and the upper shock bushings tend to fall apart (but easily repaired).
 
how would repair such bushings, is there an aftermarket replacement? Or would i reuse the bushings from my current suspension?
 
+1 on the Progressive shocks. Have a pair that I purchased from Z1 with the springs and they are very good for the money.
 
Some 15-20 years ago, I bought the progressive suspension rear shocks with the heavy duty option springs for my 750/1000.
On the second or third spring pre-load setting, they are absolutely PERFECT for two-up riding!
As I love to take jumps with that bike, the second or third setting is also perfect for a safe landing. :cool:
One-up, of course. ;)
For casual/spirited riding, I just leave them on the second setting.

We talking about hill hopping or MX jumps :eek: :D :lol:
 
Clearing the bridge type of jumps, raised man-hole covers and railroad crossing jumps.
There used to be a PERFECT bridge that had a nice ramp leading up to it and, if you hit 65 at the take off point,
you could clear the entire 15-20 feet and land just in time to stop for the turn and stop sign. :cool:
Sadly :cry: , they re-paved it a few years ago and eliminated the jump! :mad:
Now, all that I can find are railroad crossings around here. :(

Ok I've decided on the MDI shocks, Found these guys online, the other place i contacted wont have them till march.

Can anyone shed some light on the ones I need. I've emailed them but yet to hear from them..damn time zones!
