A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey guys, here's my situation:
I bought my gs1100gl a little while back. I rode it around the block probably 10 times and it always fired right up, every time and ran very good.
While waiting for parts to come in, I didn't start it for about 3 weeks. I was planning to ride it but it seemed the battery was dead. The battery I have was bought last summer (as the previous owner told me)
I attempted to use a jumper box to start it, and all it would do was crank very slow. After that, I attempted to roll start it. It almost seemed to want to try to start, but never "hit" fast enough to give me much hope. Next, I bought a slow charger, charged it for 5 hours. It will turn over very fast, but nothing more. I pulled a plug and am getting spark. I loosened the fuel line from the cock and gas ran out, so my petcock has not got stuck. I tested the resistance of my coils, one read 4.0, while the.other read 4.1
I'm not sure what to try next, as I know nothing at all about motorcycles, especially older ones. Is there some sort of "check list" someone can inform me of to start weeding out possible problems?? Thanks for any advise or suggestions

What year is this and do you understand "PR" spot on petcock? Do you understand use of "choke" ? Since you said it was sparking at plugs, next time you go acranking, pull a spark plug and see if it looks slightly wet - no sense cranking if no fuel is making it to cylinders.
If you didn't keep last years battery charged up from time to time over winter, it's probably no good.
You have seen Basscliff's site , right?

Yes, prime. I believe I had read that you leave it turned to "pr" for at least 30 seconds, then you are good to attempt to start. Correct?
No, I hadn't pulled a plug after cranking. I guess I'd just got ahead of myself.
After the charge yesterday, the battery is very strong, so that is all good now. I just didn't want to leave any detail of what I'd done out.
And no I have not saw that site. I'll check it out now! thank you
